The reports of the death of my profession are exaggerated!

That being said, I have been watching it's decline for quite some time. A profession pays a price when it is constantly under appreciated and underfunded. We work together to develop growth in our communities and support our next generation. However, when we are not met half way this becomes disheartening. For my part I have been waiting for a contract longer than might be considered right and fair, however, I am picky and time has shown that I am right to be so. Sadly, that which I have set my sites on may be changing. The social contract, for which I was trained, certainly has changed.

This summer was a wonderful opportunity to show my skills as the great teacher I am. Some of my strategies worked, some did not, however, I adjusted my strategies and had a great summer with my kids. This was no ordinary group, they set the bar high for what they expected from me while trying to do as little as possible. That being said I structured their workload and explained my standards to where neither of us would be left disappointed in the other. I enjoyed my time and will miss these kiddos as I head off on my next assignment.

As to the future of my profession, we will see.

All aboard!

The Blackwater Gospel

Yesterday was the last day I spent with my Summer School kiddos.
One of my students asked if we could watch The Backwater Gospel, so we did...

Some of the kids found it creepy but I liked it.
